5 Ups And 2 Downs From Last Night's WWE NXT (July 6)

2. Down - The Second Fall

Unfortunately, after the dramatic and lengthy first fall of the match, the second fall was a bit of a gut-punch. Less than a minute after Dash Wilder tapped out to Jason Jordan's Ankle Lock, Scott Dawson caught Jordan in an inverted Figure Four Leglock. This time, Dash cut Gable off, and Jordan tapped out, putting the teams at one fall apiece.

The fact that the fall happened so quickly wasn't the problem (although it did seem like they were in a rush) - it was more the fact that the submission came out of nowhere. The Revival did attack Jordan's leg during the first fall, but babyfaces so rarely submit that when they do, it sticks out. When they do it right after a victory, it's downright odd.

A better way to handle it would have been to have Dash and Dawson simply cheat to score the second fall. The announcers could have put over that the desperation of being down led them to break the rules, and their own acuity as heels helped them do it without being caught. That way, the fall wouldn't have seemed so out-of-place.
