SmackDown started in great fashion, outlining the strengths and weaknesses of everyone involved in the 4-way match to determine a new contender for Rusev's WWE United States Title. This short video package selection felt refreshing, hyping the upcoming match rather than limply focusing on Raw as usual.

Cesaro, Alberto Del Rio, Sheamus and Apollo Crews were all put over before the bell had even started ringing, which was great to see. The story of the bout then unfolded to include Crews and Sheamus costing one another the chance at victory, their personal issues getting in the way of the main goal.

That left Cesaro to lock Del Rio up in the Sharpshooter and pick up a well-received win. After such a hard-fought success, fans were clearly on the Swiss Superman's side, negating the need for those all-too-familiar piped in cheers SmackDown is usually guilty of.
