There are few who come across more like true heels in WWE than The Miz. He's not a 'cool villain', one who the crowd secretly admire and want to cheer. He's a big headed egotist, someone who is happy to hide behind his trophy wife whenever things go sour. In effect, he's an old school heel more akin to The Honky Tonk Man than Seth Rollins.

Even as a bad guy, fans like Rollins and enjoy watching him perform. Contrast that with The Miz, people genuinely dislike his bragging nature and want to see him get his comeuppance. On SmackDown, his Miz TV segment was gate crashed by a laid back Dean Ambrose, who decided to eat some lunch on the show.

That irked Miz, who used Maryse to distract Dean before laying him out. This built towards SmackDown's main event, and did so incredibly well. Both characters were clearly defined, the bombastic eccentricity of Ambrose contrasting well with the arrogance of The Miz.
