5 Ups And 4 Downs From Last Night's WWE NXT (July 29)

Ups...

5. Jushin "Thunder" Liger Is Coming

Last night, Tyler Breeze stormed into William Regal's office to demand a top-quality opponent for TakeOver Brooklyn. Regal responded that he had had gone to "the ends of the Earth" to find him someone, which can mean only one thing: Jushin "Thunder" Liger. It's been confirmed for a while now that Liger, the 30+ year Japanese light heavyweight veteran would be wrestling a one-off match for NXT, as part of what fans must hope will be a new long-term talent-sharing deal between WWE and New Japan Pro Wrestling. After all, the working deals between NJPW and Ring of Honour has been working gangbusters and the Japanese promotion has a hoard of amazing talent that would shine in front of Western audiences. For those unaware of Liger, he's a legend, not only in Japan, pioneering the high-flying style that inspired the cruiserweight divisions in the West, but he was also well known to American audiences in the 90s, wrestling in, amongst other places, WCW. Here he is wrestling Rey Mysterio at Starrcade 1996, back when he was only a twelve year veteran. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FlJIrZqDec4 Even at 50 years old, Liger is still a massive star and his upcoming match with Breeze should hopefully, after Beast In The East, continue WWE's fine work in conjunction with Japan and its rich supply of talent.
