5 Ups And 7 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (Feb 25)

2. Tag Champs = Cannon Fodder

Ricochet Aleistar Black Revival

We get that WWE is apparently going all-in on its four latest call-ups, and regardless of how sudden and unplanned it was, it’s refreshing to see them giving them a showcase push right away.

But having them beat your Raw Tag Team Champions in back-to-back weeks? Maybe if it was the B-Team, but good Lord, what the hell is wrong with WWE? You could argue that DIY beating Revival makes sense, as their rivalry in NXT was stellar and Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano were a functional tag team.

But Ricochet and Aleister Black, a duo that has wrestled as a tag team once before, last June? Were the B-Team, Ascension, Lucha House Party, or Rhyno & Heath Slater unavailable? We also would have accepted Apollo Crews teaming with No Way Jose, or Mojo Rawley tagging with Jinder Mahal.

The point is, there were at least a half-dozen other lesser wrestling duos they could have stuck out there rather than beating their tag champs twice in a row. WWE made this decision consciously.

And it’s not like you can say, “Oh, maybe they have a bigger plan,” because they almost never do.
