It really took some doing to turn an excellent pro wrestler like Chavo Guerrero into a bumbling clown who starred in the worst segment on Raw every Monday. WWE's creative team somehow managed to do that in 2009. Apparently, somebody backstage thought Chavo chasing the diminutive Hornswoggle around like he was in some Looney Tunes cartoon series was pulsating wrestling TV.

News flash: It was a painful chore that barely even qualified as levity on an otherwise-serious show. That isn't an internet writer being some miserable git - it's true. Swoggle vs. Guerrero satisfied next to nobody as they clashed in everything from boxing matches (complete with oversized gloves for Chavo), a 'Texas Bullrope Match' that had Guerrero dress up as a cow mascot, and a blindfold bout that made Jake Roberts vs. Rick Martel from WrestleMania VII look like the best match in history by comparison.

In fairness to both guys, they were trying. It certainly wasn't their fault that the creative was putrid. As a one off, this might've even worked, but it wasn't a one off. No, WWE kept coming back with more lame comedy week after week after week. They even had some Raw guest hosts dress Mark Henry up as "Markswoggle" for another Chavo pasting.

The whole thing was a torture-filled waste of precious minutes on the flagship. Comedy wasn't the problem. It can work. Wrestling writers thinking they're penning the next slapstick classic but actually getting more tedious every time they script a new chapter very much was.
