More zombies incoming.

Damian Priest vs. The Miz was a tie-in with the Netflix movie Army Of The Dead. That starred Batista, but WWE's 'Zombie Lumberjack Match' at WrestleMania Backlash 2021 starred another old favourite. Scotty Too Hotty was in the house, and he cosplayed a brain-devouring member of the undead cast who surrounded the ring and tried to tear flesh from Priest and Miz. It was hokey, but hokey has worked in the past.

This just didn't. It was too much for fans watching at home to deal with when announcers hit out with ludicrous statements about zombie lumberjacks on patrol, or when Priest and Miz fended the undead horde off with simple kicks and punches. This was like a video game, not a pro wrestling match. Things got worse come the finish.

The zombies, who had respected the invisible barrier wrestling so loves to pretend each ring has, waited patiently until Priest had pinned Miz before entering and "devouring" the heel. As if realising the silliness of their own booking, WWE had Miz show back up on TV a week or so later with barely a scratch on his body. Hey, it turns out being gnawed to death by a pack of zombies is no worse than being licked clean by an eager litter of cute puppies.

WWE made money from the Army Of The Dead product placement, but they didn't need to go to these lengths to promote it. A trailer would've sufficed, or maybe they could've brought the old ECW Zombie out of retirement and had Steve Austin hit a stunner on him. Anything would've been better than what was served up.
