6 Ups & 1 Down From WWE SmackDown (24 Oct - Results & Review)
5. Story Time With Drew
Drew McIntyre interrupted Cody Rhodes during the show opening promo to ask why fans still cheer for him. Then, he said he had nothing to do with the attack on Jacob Fatu last week. Cody didn't believe that, neither did Michael Cole (who asked you, MC?!), and a frustrated Jimmy Uso didn't wait for words. He rushed out to fight McIntyre, then the pair worked a pull apart brawl as security slipped around like comedy characters.
During his promo on the announce desk, Drew had implied that Jimmy might be responsible. This was a fairly standard opening segment, but it was a slick one. Cody wasn’t left hanging out there on his own, McIntyre had some choice words, Jimmy showed some fire, then WWE fed right into the opening tag bout by having Solo Sikoa and MFT crash the scene. It was all very well produced.
Post-break, the company tacked on a quick backstage skit with Drew talking to Nick Aldis and Uso ambushing him again. That lined up the 'No DQ' headliner for this week's show, and it presented McIntyre has somebody who isn't simply out for blood. He's furious about the thought of being blamed for the Jacob situation, so there may well be something in that.
Was it Jimmy after all? Or did Jey Uso, who has been showcasing some heelish edge lately, do it out of sheer badness/to incriminate his brother? Hunter and his creative team have a ton of different ways they could go with this story, and that's a good thing. A very good thing.
Solid promo work from Drew as well.
