6 Ups & 4 Downs From Impact Wrestling Sacrifice 2021

2. The Most Innovative Wrestlers

Brian Myers and Eddie Edwards' Hold Harmless Match (essentially, there were no rules, for those asking) very easily could have been a standard contest. Instead, they gave us one hell of a match.

Despite proceedings for the first half of the bout being largely basic, in the sense that Eddie used all his typical offence, it was worth the wait. The snap belly to belly had a meaning. The suicide dive had a meaning. The blue thunder bomb had a meaning, and was actually preceded by a f*cking beautiful forearm strike.

The second half of the contest was lovely.

Matt Cardona intervened to prevent any major damage being carried out by Hernandez, even if he did just awkwardly leave after laying out 'Supermex' with a Radio Silence. Both Myers and Edwards were creative in two specific spots; 'The Most Professional Wrestler' hid under the ring, only to bait Eddie in by yanking him chin-first into the ring apron, while the former World Champion backpack Stunnered Myers off the apron and through a ringside table. The whiplash on Myers' neck here was nasty.

Even the ending to the bout had a special meaning. Edwards thwarted 'Bad Mood Brian's' Roster Cut attempt by whacking him across the skull with a trash can lid, instead loading his knee pad for a Boston Knee Party. He used the same foreign object that Myers used to lariat him during their earlier singles bout where Cardona served as the referee.

Granted, this story arc doesn't appear to be over quite yet, as we seem to be lining up to Myers vs. Cardona at Rebellion on 24 April, but your writer doesn't even care right now. Myers and Edwards reignited the purpose of this rivalry with a damn good match.
