6 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE Raw (15 July - Results & Review)

WWE Raw Bron Breakker Ilja Dragunov Sami Zayn
WWE

Bron Breakker being on the warpath and mowing down everyone on sight has been a pretty good cheat code for WWE to convey just how dangerous he is.

And even last week’s attack on Sami Zayn and decimation of Ilja Dragunov was pretty well done. However, if WWE’s only play to get Breakker back to challenging Sami for the Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam is by blindsiding Zayn (and others), then it’s a pretty piss-poor playbook.

Bron broke up the IC title match between Sami and Ilja – a match that was decidedly subpar considering the talent of both men before the DQ finish – by spearing Dragunov and battering Zayn to close out the show. This came after Breakker had been escorted out of the arena because he threatened to disrupt the main event.

This begs a very simple question: If Drew McIntyre has been suspended for attacking WWE personnel and disrupting programming, why hasn’t Breakker been put on ice as well? If he’s granted an Intercontinental Championship match over other deserving superstars who have – gasp! – wrestled and won matches, then what’s the point of actually competing in the ring to earn title shots? Just attack a champ over and over until they’re goaded into putting the title on the line.

Breakker is a huge star in the making, but this felt like a misfire if you actually were trying to follow logic. Maybe get him back in the ring to win a match or two to earn his title match and it will help course-correct the story.

The fact that the Zayn/Dragunov match wasn’t nearly as good as it could have been didn’t help with leaving a sour taste in one’s mouth.
