6 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE SmackDown (8 Nov - Results & Review)

Downs...

4. Wrestling Doesn’t Need More Belts

WWE Women's United States Title
WWE

This is one of two 'Downs' that some will definitely take issue with, but please remember this is just one fan's opinion. The new Women's United States Title maybe deserves a chance to get going before the pitchforks come out, but it does smack of WWE throwing titles into the mix for the sake of it. That's never a good plan, because it inevitably leads to dilution of interest in belts generally.

Raw will presumably get a Women's Intercontinental Title soon, which further adds to the glut of champs running around the place.

Sure, it's cool to see the women's division take another mighty stride forward, but too many titles is never a good thing. Take a glance over at AEW to see the problems having too many belts to showcase can cause - Tony Khan has his core championships, but also reps the ROH titles and occasionally those from other promotions too. It's messy, and that's something Triple H should avoid like the plague.

Nick Aldis spoke of making history and rewarding hardworking athletes for their labour. The SmackDown GM cut a dignified and fine promo when revealing the new Women's US prize; it's coming hot on the heels of Trips announcing the unwanted Crown Jewel Titles that'll mean nothing to the weekly product though, so at least this new one will serve that and actually matter to fans.

How long it matters is anyone's guess. The belt (plural if Raw does follow suit with IC) will need to be clearly positioned as beneath the Women's World and WWE Women's on programming for starters.
