6 Ups And 1 Down For WWE NXT (Mar 10)
Ups...
6. Changing Up The Landscape
Last week, in the wake of Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez getting screwed out of the Women's Tag Team Championships by a RAW official, General Manager William Regal declared that he would be making a monumental announcement in seven days time.
Fast forward a week, and add in an additional bombshell that was promoted mid-week, and NXT didn't waste time in allowing Regal to take centre stage. Talking up the special feeling WrestleMania season brings about, the Brit allowed a video package to do the talking for announcement one: TakeOver Stand and Deliver will indeed be a two-night event, with Night One going down on the USA Network on April 7 and Night Two hitting Peacock on April 8.
Keeping up the theme of Standing and Delivering, Regal rolled straight into his next game-changing reveal, asking the Women of the black and gold brand to join him on the ramp as he rewarded Dusty Cup winners Kai and Gonzalez the sparkly new NXT Women's Tag Team Championships.
Seizing the opportunity to be the first to congratulate the new champs, Shotzi Blackheart and Ember Moon were quick to challenge their fellow Dusty Cup finalists, making Mr. Regal's job relatively easy as he set up a title match for later on tonight.
All this is well and good, a two-night TakeOver gives the roster more of a chance to make a name for themselves on a big stage and the tag belts will no doubt be better utilised on Wednesday nights than, erm, elsewhere. But, following up on that latter point, do we really need the main roster versions of these titles now? If they didn't feel special before, you can bet your ass they're going to look more inferior by the week when held up against the most talented Women's division in wrestling.
