6 Ups And 3 Downs From WWE NXT 2.0 (Oct 5)
3. Cora Jade Stuns The Brand
It's rare your writer can honestly sit here and commend a roll-up victory out of nowhere, largely due to the fact that we see them clogging up just about every WWE show brought into existence on a weekly basis. However, last night saw a clear example of how effective they can be when not ran into the ground over the course of an evening.
With Cora Jade's original opponent, Virginia Ferry, being swatted away by Franky Monet before the bell, the NXT newbie was tasked with taking on the sadistic veteran with absolutely no time to prepare for the step up in class. Cue a dominant display from Monet, looking to wash away the memories of coming up short in her NXT Women's title match a week ago.
And things were all going swimmingly for The Robert Stone Brand. Monet was successfully grinding Jade into the mat in front of her love Trey Baxter and a vital victory was all but ensured. That was until Jade brilliantly caught the cocky one-time title challenger off-guard with a rollup and fled away with the unexpected 'W'. Sure, you can make the argument that your new babyfaces probably shouldn't be scurrying away in victory every week, but this was genuinely an unanticipated and crowd-pleasing win for a star who could very much be NXT's future.
When it comes to Monet, though, is it time for a brand revamp of her own?
