6 Ups And 5 Downs From Last Night’s WWE Raw (April 6th)
2. We Clap Or We Snap
This entire bizarre New Day gimmick has officially gone meta. While it's most likely intentional It's not outside the realm of possibility that Big E, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods are so far under the radar of Vince and the writers that they're not even aware that the three performers have taken to mocking their own gimmick. The interview with Renee Young was a prime example of this, with Big E over-exaggerating his southern baptist minister's voice and Kofi and Woods putting on fake smiles while dancing their way out of the segment. It's obvious they're building toward a heel turn - as evidenced by the cadence of the clap being changed to accommodate the "New...Day Sucks" chants - but if this was the plan from the start, they've done a terrible job of getting there. Reports were that the the initial angle to turn the three heel was nixed due to timing with the Ferguson protests, but turning them into dancing carcicatures was far more offensive than anything politically charged they would have done. The tag team division is in shambles once again, but maybe breathing new life into three of the most ridiculous - and in the case of Big E, wasted - characters in the WWE will help revive it. Probably not, but we can dream.
