6 Ups And 8 Downs From WWE Raw 25

1. Self-Gratification

When D-Generation X had a reunion at Raw 1000 in 2012, it was a pretty cool moment to see Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Billy Gunn, Road Dogg and X-Pac all together in a ring as part of DX for the first time (at least this century).

But Monday, we got what resembled more of a self-congratulatory tour de force, with DX being joined by fellow Kliq member Scott Hall (Kevin Nash had to back out) and then the Balor Club joined them, sharing the “Too Sweet” salute.

During Michaels and Triple H’s promo, they made sure to talk about themselves (although they gave a nice nod to “Ravishing” Rick Rude and Chyna), complete with an apocryphal reference to the “tank” they drove to WCW Monday Nitro to start the Monday Night Wars.

And then after the Club defeated the Revival, all members of DX hit their finishers on Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder, just in case you were wondering who the stars of the show really were.

In the grand scheme of things, 98% of this is harmless. (This writer often considers reunion shows like this more standalone programs than part of the Raw continuity due to so many out-of-character moments.) But after Steve Austin got zero mic time, Undertaker gave a rambling promo, and John Cena got laid out, DX chewing scenery for 15 minutes wasn’t too sweet – it was too much.

Scott is a former journalist and longtime wrestling fan who was smart enough to abandon WCW during the Monday Night Wars the same time as the Radicalz. He fortunately became a fan in time for WrestleMania III and came back as a fan after a long high school hiatus before WM XIV. Monday nights in the Carlson household are reserved for viewing Raw -- for better or worse.
