Arguably the hardest pop to generate in pro-wrestling, is one that arrives from the mere appearance of an existing member of the roster. Normally you've got to concoct a face turn so powerful it alters the landscape of the company (think Austin deciding to just chin the entire Invasion Alliance on his own) or spend weeks and months building to a shock mystery angle (think Vince's! Illigetimate! Son!).
However the current """"""circumstances""""" have rendered a number of existing stars both out of sight and out of mind. To the extent, in fact, that a lot of their inevitable returns are going to have the emotional impact of actual debuts, if handled correctly.
Now, aforementioned """"""""circumstances"""""""" mean that, at worst, a PAC appearance is logistically impossible and, even if it's not, then the optics of it are still absolutely putrid. Even the most hardcore AEW fans must be looking at New Japan's refusal to run shows during the crisis and wondering why their babyface promotion won't do the same. Breaking a global lockdown would be a terrible look, but well within the company's spending power to do so.
