7 Reasons Dean Ambrose Failed As WWE World Champion
1. A Lack Of Challengers
As the dust cleared on the WWE Draft, fans began to put together their cards for SummerSlam. Rollins and Balor were to go at it for the Universal Championship, Brock Lesnar would fight Randy Orton in a match some twelve years in the making, John Cena and AJ Styles would go one-on-one once again and Roman Reigns would challenge Rusev for the United States Championship.
Ambrose? There weren't exactly any obvious challengers putting their hands up on SmackDown. Bray Wyatt seemed the obvious choice, but Ambrose and Wyatt had battled on a number of occasions in the past. The man across the ring from Ambrose at the biggest part of the summer would eventually be Dolph Ziggler, who won a six-pack challenge for the honour.
A champion is only as strong as his challengers, and Ambrose simply wasn't faced with a whole host of interesting options. Ambrose/Wyatt has been done to death, and whilst Ambrose/Cena or Styles was fresh, those two were tied up with each other. Apollo Crews and Baron Corbin aren't ready, so who did that leave? The Miz? Kane? Alberto Del Rio?
By virtue of having arrived in WWE this year, AJ Styles is now faced with a whole roster of fresh opponents for his championship. For Ambrose, now is the time to take stock and rebuild, to move towards a more serious Lunatic for what will surely be ready for a more successful run at the top in the future.
