7 Reasons Eva Marie Should Be WWE SmackDown's First Women's Champion

1. It Will Differentiate The Brands

Surprisingly SmackDown has thus far done a better job of utilizing all the women on their roster, despite the fact that they have less “big names” than their Monday night counterpart. As of right now, Raw is all about champion Sasha Banks and her feud with Charlotte, while Nia Jax is being built slowly via old school jobber squashes. Outside of those three there really isn’t anything going on with the ladies on the flagship show, but the two main competitors are putting the focus on the in-ring action.

Meanwhile over on Tuesdays Becky Lynch is afloat in a sea of performers far less talented than she is between the ropes, and she’s floundering because of it. Since the majority of the top workers on Mondays, the best way to set the two women’s divisions apart would be to have one be less focused on putting on great matches and more about the character work, and since most of the overall better wrestlers are on Raw, that needs to be SmackDown.

I fully expect to get crucified for suggesting that WWE undo all the hard work the ladies have put into being taken seriously, but I think if we’re looking at an Eva Marie title reign that way then perhaps we’re the ones taking things too seriously. It’s still pro wrestling, it’s just entertainment and it’s meant to stir up emotions. And having Eva Marie as a champion who squirms her way out of defending her title for increasingly ludicrous reasons while the babyfaces frustratingly try to conquer her is far more entertaining than seeing Becky and Nattie wrestle each other for the title in ten –minute matches with no character development week after week.
