Mickey Gall, CM Punk's opponent at UFC 203, has exactly two professional fights in his career, just one of which came in the UFC. Of course, that's two more fights than Punk has had, but Gall remains a green fighter.
While Punk is also a green fighter, he does have experience performing in front of large crowds, which may give him a slight advantage. In fact, the mental game might just be the one area where CM Punk wins hands down. Throughout the documentary, his confidence and drive shines through.
In talking about mental preparation for fighting, Punk comments;
I go through every single scenario in my head, and it's all positive - I'm going to win. That's definitely an aspect of the fight game I don't think a lot of fighters grasp.
Punk may very well be right. While many fighters visualize winning - it's a common tactic - few are under the sort of pressure Gall and Punk will be, thrust into the spotlight extremely early in their fighting careers. If nowhere else, Punk has the edge here.
