7 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Dynamite (9 Mar)

4. Hangman Clips Dante's Wings

Dante Martin Hangman Page
AEW

Hangman Page vs. Dante Martin could have perhaps benefitted from an extra couple of minutes.

It's not that Dante, typically a lower-ranked AEW wrestler, should be pushing the World Champion to the limit in a 25-minute classic. That wouldn't have felt appropriate at this stage in his development. Still, seven-and-a-half minutes weren't quite enough to give him the level of shine you'd ideally want from a defence like this.

But make no mistake, the match was boatloads of fun. Martin is one of the most exciting television wrestlers in the world and got to show some of his best stuff against Page, whose size and command of the ring were obvious difference-makers. A blistering series of rope-based counters inside and out led to the finish, as Hangman successfully landed the Buckshot after knocking Dante away following an attempted springboard, showing he's a fighting champion.

The post-match show of respect was as elevatory as the match, too, with Page welcoming Dante back for another shot should he climb the singles rankings again.
