Downs…

4. RIP Original Raw Main Event

Until the end of time, this will forever be a gripe…

If Seth Rollins and Sami Zayn, two babyfaces who are longtime friends in reality and storyline, hadn’t lost their minds and started arguing with each other to open Raw, what would have closed out the show?

Surely, Raw GM Adam Pearce wasn’t going to throw R-Truth versus Pete Dunne out there as the last match. But if not that, what was supposed to main event the program? The impromptu matchmaking coming out of the opening segment has become less prevalent under Triple H, but it remains a booking crutch that the company can’t seem to shake. To accept this, you’d have to believe that WWE didn’t have a match booked for the last 15 minutes of Raw and were saved by short tempers.

Of course, many fans just turn that logical part of their brains off and accept it, much how everyone just accepts the “physics” behind an Irish Whip. But it wouldn’t take much to plug the logic gap here. A 20-second conversation backstage where Pearce cancels a match or interview segment to make room for the new main event would suffice.

As always, this is an original sin, not a cardinal one, but it remains a pet peeve.
