7 Ups & 5 Downs From IMPACT Slammiversary 2023 (Review)

2. Subculture Are Stars

Or at least they will be.

Strapping up Mark Andrews and Flash Morgan Webster was the right decision. The pair are simply fun to watch, carry themselves like superstars, and have oodles of potential and chemistry together. Passing on the chance to sign them and have them head up a division that IMPACT has excelled in crafting, would be foolish.

They toppled Ace Austin and Chris Bey in a berserk four-way that fluctuated in pacing throughout - and not in a bad way. Matching two gifted acrobatic pairings with the throwback hoss style of Moose and Brian Myers, and whatever the hell you'd call the style of Rich Swann and Sami Callihan, allowed for a diverse match as for every Mark Andrews somersault dive, Moose and Myers had a pair of Powerbombs to keep you off your feet.

The closing sequence, in which The Rascalz cost The ABC the titles, was great, too, as it gets the belts off Austin and Bey without a loss of direction for them. The feud doesn't need the titles. Although The Rascalz and The ABC would complement the titles, and vice versa, the wrestling itself will be enough. Placing the belts instead on Subculture, an act clearly destined for greatness in the right place, was the right move and IMPACT's doubles division now resembles its mid-noughties peak.
