Admittedly, Josh Alexander and El Phantasmo’s X Division Championship clash was nowhere near as outstanding as it was anticipated to be. The bar was raised a tad too high for what they delivered, and that’s fine. It was still good.
There was no real heat between the two sides, meaning they instead focused on outwrestling each other. Phantasmo acknowledged this by being legitimately surprised at Alexander’s execution of a snap takedown. The Bullet Club member retaliated by mocking ‘The Walking Weapon’ via two tightrope-based manoeuvres throughout the contest.
Josh was great with some of his intricacies in this one; for example, he took a Buzzsaw Kick at one stage, and even though he was actually hit with the move, he still had enough in him to hook Phantasmo’s ankle for an Ankle Lock attempt. The same applied to his reversal of the CRII later on. A fun game of back and forth ended this, culminating in Josh submitting Phantasmo. Again, this was sophisticated; his usual hand had been focused on in the match, so he switched up the execution of his patented submission.
A solid title match. Alexander is on track to have a career-defining X Division Championship run with matches like this. Long may it continue.
