7 Ups & 7 Downs From Impact Wrestling (9 March)

1. Defining A Division

Chris Bey vs. Ace Austin; f*cking hell, what an amazing match.

It was bound to happen when the match was announced last week, but you could never have guessed what the pair would pull off. Starting off as a bit of a technical match, it soon descended into exactly what we'd expect - the exact Dictionary definition of the X Division.

Madman Fulton had the best seat in the house, sitting on a chair at ringside without too much involvement in the match. This was precisely what you needed to have in such a match. There was no need for Fulton to be physically involved in the match, and thankfully, he wasn't. Bey and Austin were left to have a tantalisng encounter that consisted of Bey's perfect Tope con Hilo, Ace's innovative corkscrew Swanton Bomb, and a TJP distraction onstage. Again, the X Division Champion didn't get involved.

Ace flying directly into Bey's cutter was gorgeous, and when you follow it up with an Art of Finesse, it makes for a mesmerising culmination to an already standout match.

Hats off to these two. They were given the platform to showcase themselves, and that's what they did. There's a fine reason why both are former X Division Champions. If we can have at least one match a week that's anywhere near as great as this, Impact will have unlocked the secret to mass success.
