7 Ups And 0 Downs For WWE NXT TakeOver: Stand And Deliver Night 1 (Apr 7)
5. KUSHIDA Can't Get The Job Dunne
The story coming into this bad boy was fairly straight forward: Who is really the best technical wrestler on the black and gold brand?
Last week's battle royal clearly didn't resolve the issue as KUSHIDA eliminated both himself and Pete Dunne in refusing to release his vicious armbar. So, the pair were booked to settle their score in the opening contest of this stacked two-night spectacular.
Wasting little time feeling out one another, the two rapidly exchanged savage submissions within seconds of the bell ringing. Yet, a stinging X-plex on the apron soon gave Dunne the opening he was looking for to inflict his usual brand of limb snapping pain. KUSHIDA would eventually utilise the unique TakeOver environment soon enough, though, catching Dunne with a handspring back elbow on the now-raised entrance ramp.
Trading a series of devastating and borderline inhumane chops, kicks and stomps before answering each other back with dynamic armbar transitions, if you weren't convinced these two were at the top of the technical pile coming into this match, oh boy, did they give you a reason to reassess your way of thinking.
However, despite looking like he was set to come away with a monumental victory on the back of an insane never-ending hoverboard lock, it was KUSHIDA who was left staring up at the lights. Dunne finally utilised his trademark finger breaking arsenal to catch his rival in a Bitter End for the victory.
When it comes to a match that resembles a game of ludicrous wrestling tennis though, you can hardly class anyone as an out and out loser. But as of writing, Dunne can at least claim he is the current technical numero uno in NXT.
Has Daniel Bryan got any post-'Mania plans?
