7 Ups And 5 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (August 24th)

4. Insulting Celebrity HOFers

WWE loves to be €œtopical€ whenever they can, but it sometimes backfires in the worst possible way. At best, the company€™s topical humor elicits groans. We€™ll have to see what happens with Monday night€™s bad joke. As Team Bella made their way to ringside, Nikki questioned Paige€™s assertion that PCB was dominant in the Divas Revolution since they won at SummerSlam: €œYou think you three are dominant? That€™s like saying that Donald Trump€™s favorite holiday is Cinco de Mayo.€ Trump, a WWE Hall of Famer and the leading Republican presidential candidate, has espoused strong anti-immigrant stances, pushing to end birthright citizenship in the United States for children of undocumented immigrants. His controversial views have alienated large segments of the population, regardless of political affiliation. But once again, WWE wading into topical and political arenas rarely works out well for them. And given that Trump is a WWE Hall of Famer and has shown a tendency to run his mouth, there€™s a slight possibility that The Donald could swing back against WWE. The promotion has enjoyed some mainstream press lately, but this would be the wrong kind.
