7 Ups And 9 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (May 16)

3. Good Match Idea, Bad Setup

Leave it to WWE to go one step too far with establishing a new match. Monday night, Dean Ambrose lured Chris Jericho into a match for Extreme Rules, then dropped a steel cage around the ring, revealing the stipulation for their bout.

But this steel cage had different weapons and implements attached to it: a straightjacket, leather strap, barbed wire 2x4, fire extinguisher, and a potted plant. (Because WWE.) Thus, the asylum match was born. But what made it campy (and not in a good way) was that while the cage lowered and Ambrose talked about the match, the lights flickered and music played, and it continued to go after the cage was down and Dean continued on. It might have made sense while the cage was being lowered, but it become silly and campy when it kept going.

Putting that aside though, this could be a really good match. Jericho and Ambrose had a good bout at Payback, and if they dont let the gimmicks and weapons dominate too much, they could have a fun brawl on Sunday.
