7 Ways TNA Resembles A Dying WCW

3. Endless Fights For Power

hogan bischoff The last couple years of WCW, we saw a variety of characters in authority positions like Eric Bischoff, Vince Russo, "Above Average" Mike Sanders, The Cat and Ric Flair. The past few years of TNA we've seen Bischoff, Sting, Hulk Hogan, Dixie Carter and now MVP in authority roles. Of course, WWE has done this as well, but the main players have remained pretty much the same over the past 15 years with the McMahon family as the end-all-be-all. It's a shame that TNA programming so often has to rely on what WWE is doing. Until the beginning of the Attitude Era, wrestling did not revolve around evil authority figures. To that point, the NWA, AWA, Mid-South and the WWF made a lot of money by revolving the biggest stories on wrestlers fighting other wrestlers for titles. It may sound strange to the average fan, but there was no heel owner in sight. The start, and pinnacle of this trend was Steve Austin vs. Vince McMahon. That peaked in about 1998. Can anyone sanely say that MVP vs. Dixie Carter is even remotely as entertaining as that? Right now, MVP is running the show. But for how long? If you've watched TNA since it's inception, it's only a matter of time before a heel tries to take over the company once again. If TNA wants to continue to follow in the footsteps of WCW and constantly change up who's in charge, they're free to do so. But that means they shouldn't have any excuses when it causes fans to change the channel for good.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
