7 Ways WWE Are Failing Their Own Cruiserweight Division

3. Giving Up On Champions With Potential

Of the four men who have held WWE's new Cruiserweight Title to date, two have been babyface (TJ Perkins and Rich Swann) and two have been heel (Brian Kendrick and current champ Neville). Kendrick's reign was always going to be temporary, but Swann's stint with the purple belt was ended prematurely.

Neville's heel turn did merit a run with the title, but it's hard to shake the feeling that WWE gave up on Swann way too quickly. 'The Outlandish' babyface was gaining some traction as a character and showing good personality before he dropped the title to Neville at January's Royal Rumble. Since then, Swann has done very little of note, almost as though he was punished for getting over.

Perkins is another victim of the title. Winning the Cruiserweight Classic has counted for nothing on the main roster, and he's now complete cannon fodder for heels in the Cruiserweight division. Some more patience was needed with the title, because both reigns for Perkins and Swann have done little for the championship itself.
