3. Jeff Jarrett

Jeff Jarrett is a man who has always split opinion. To some, he's an irresistible throwback to wrestling's classic days, whose charm runs rampant whether he's a face of a heel. To others, he's a chancer with a messiah complex that's best suited to being a big fish in a small pond. Whichever way it's chopped up, 'Double J' didn't get his shot at a feud with Stone Cold Steve Austin during his red hot run in 1997, and the primary reason is bizarre.

When coming back into WWE, he cut a promo on the October 20th, 1997 episode of Monday Night Raw that was laying scorn upon everyone from his past and his present. Eric Bischoff took shots from Jarrett, and Vince McMahon took bullets just to keep things equal, but it was when Jeff turned his attention to Austin that things got out of hand.

In suggesting Austin was using "blasphemous statements" over his 'Austin 3:16' gimmick, he went on to accuse 'The Rattlesnake' of "ripping off the Bible to put money in (his) pockets!". Austin was furious at the suggestion, and suggested that the line could slow sales of one of the hottest merch items in the history of pro wrestling. The outcome was Jarrett missing out on a feud with the hottest superstar in wrestling.
