It was never revealed precisely what the virus making its way through WWE locker-rooms last October was, but it was definitely a wrestling fan.

Not content with significantly buffing the main event fare, the coursing contagion made itself the show's MVP in sidelining poor Bray Wyatt (his brother Bo Dallas was unfortunate collateral damage). The admittedly intriguing but inevitably embarrassing spectacle of Bray dressing up in drag like Samara to take on a pumpkin (seriously) was forcibly nixed. Instead, WWE simply said "f*ck it" to any concessions to internal logic and narrative, and gave fans a dream match between Finn Bálor and SmackDown's AJ Styles in its place.

It's perhaps a little unfair, but 10,000% accurate to say the resultant replacement was a billion times better than anything Sister Abigail vs. Big Poppa Pumpkin would have offered. Babalú Ayé smiled kindly that week.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
