8 Best Masked Wrestling Returns
1. The Midnight Rider
Only Dusty Rhodes would be brash enough to take this classic territory trick, and make it the centerpiece of a storyline. Kevin Sullivan had just banished Rhodes from the company when The Midnight Rider arrived.
JJ Dillon and Kevin Sullivan were convinced that Dusty Rhodes was the man beneath the mask, and engaged in a cat-and-mouse battle with The Rider to try and prove his true identity.
Along the way, The Midnight Rider found great success, capturing the Tag Team Championships with Magnum T.A. and defeating Ric Flair for the NWA Heavyweight Championship. Both times, he relinquished the titles rather than unmask.
As he had done with the first Starrcade and the storytelling trope known as the Dusty Finish, Rhodes made the masked return his own, forever linking it with his impressive wrestling legacy.
