8 Decisions That Pushed WCW Towards Ruin

4. Booking A Terrible Finish To Starrcade 1997s Main Event

This one still has me tearing my hair out twenty years later.

Starrcade 1997 had the potential to be one of the greatest pay-per-views in wrestling history. A year's worth of build up saw Sting and 'Hollywood' Hulk Hogan finally square off. Sting's 'crow' gimmick was red hot, off the Nando's scale. The stage was set for him to destroy Hogan, take all of the nWo with him, and win for WCW.

What we actually got was a dominant performance from Hogan, beating Sting clean. The whole thing ended up such a mess no one knows for sure what went wrong even today.

Bret 'Hitman' Hart's first WCW night was ruined with bizarre interference, as Sting was only able to win because Hart restarted the match after the world saw Hogan pin him.

Booking this right would have catapulted Sting and WCW to new heights, but it wasn't to be. There are plenty of reasons why this pay-per-view is still talked about today, and none of them are good.

Fun loving and opinionated. Full of random facts, many of which are completely irrelevant. I think I'm funny, hopefully at least one other person agrees. Love dissecting movies, television and video games for others to enjoy.
