It’s a shame that Kalisto and Baron Corbin weren’t featured on this week’s SmackDown. Their feud has been played low-key thus far, but their few short segments together have been pitch perfect.

For two consecutive weeks, Corbin was found backstage beating-up Kalisto, and with the luchadore at his mercy, The Lone Wolf was coming-off every bit the domineering jerk he was in NXT. It was revealed on SummerSlam’s Kickoff show that Kalisto was “injured,” prompting Corbin to cut a surprisingly strong promo on the little guy. Corbin’s “you cost me money by not being here, so now I’m going to beat you up” message was simple, effective, and exactly the kind of mission statement he should be making on a weekly basis.

It’s a perfect feud for both men. Corbin is outstanding as the bully: it’s a straightforward role, but one he plays incredibly well despite his general moroseness, and it doesn’t ask much of his limited skillset. Kalisto, meanwhile, is the smallest male wrestler on the roster, a natural underdog, and a guy who’s going to generate great sympathy against one of the most unlikeable men in WWE.

The match seems certain, but who’ll take it? While logic generally dictates that the underdog should overcome his bully in the end, Corbin hasn’t looked strong since winning WrestleMania’s Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. The Dolph Ziggler feud left his momentum in the dust, and he likely can’t take another big hit without dealing lasting damage to his credibility. The Lone Wolf takes the win, and moves up in the Intercontinental Title division.
