5. Tiki Ghosn Mistakenly Thinks He Lost Due To A Cut

Tiki Ghosn is a pioneer of MMA, having made his debut in a time when the ruleset wasn't nearly as protective of fighters as it is today. The American didn't have an easy entry into the sport either, facing combat sports legend Genki Sudo in his first professional fight.

After losing the first two bouts of his initial stint in the UFC, Ghosn rebounded with three consecutive victories on the regional circuit to earn a return to the big show. Again, Ghosn was booked to fight another tough opponent, this time against rising star and undefeated welterweight Robbie Lawler. Ghosn commented in interviews before the fight that he believed Lawler was being overhyped as a prospect, and that his experience advantage would prove to be the deciding factor.

When the fight came, Lawler would prove to be too much for Ghosn, with the pair trading heavy shots from the outset. Lawler would catch Ghosn with a counter right hand that dropped his opponent and followed up with a pair of brutal strikes on the mat that rendered Ghosn unconscious.

After the fight, and while likely suffering a concussion, Ghosn was asked in the cage whether he would take his pre-fight comments back. Ghosn commented that the fight was stopped because of a cut, with the footage of him being viciously KO'd subsequently shown on the big screen.

Despite this, it would take several years, and another incident with Joe Rogan and Alistair Overeem, before the UFC would stop interviewing fighters after they had been knocked out.
