At those WWE tryouts in 2013, Lee got talking with legends like Dusty Rhodes and William Regal about what it was the company were starting to look for in prospective signings. Their words, along with later advice from Jim Ross and Joey Mercury, helped light a fire underneath Keith.

Perhaps for the first time, he was willing to go out on a limb and force himself away from promotions in the Dallas area. At first, this meant small spot shows in other parts of Texas, but it wasn't long until Lee was pushing his boundaries beyond the state into other North American territories.

All the while, he couldn't forget the encouragement from icons that he get out of the funk he'd found himself in back home.

Armed with newfound confidence, Lee was able to broaden his horizons, meet some new people and begin showing his skills on a bigger platform. It's almost like he just needed a bit of guidance to help him see what he had to offer.
