8 Times WWE Tried (And Failed) To Make The Roman Reigns Experiment Work
4. Winning The US Championship
When Reigns' repetitive main event pushes weren't working, the-powers-that-be decided to keep him out of the Universal Championship picture for a little while, and placed him in the upper midcard instead. This inevitably came across like WWE had no idea what to do with him until WrestleMania and thus, wanted to take time to slowly build him into a future main event star instead of forcing him on us immediately like they did so many times before. The one major flaw here is that they couldn't do it without giving him yet another championship.
Though his run in the midcard did prove to be somewhat beneficial for him, as he had some really entertaining matches there, it didn't help the likes of Rusev, who Reigns stole the U.S. Championship from.
It's hard to know what they were really thinking here. Perhaps they thought that his absence from the main event scene would make the heart grow fonder? Well, needless to say, it didn't. This didn't change the fact that he would still go on to main event his third consecutive WrestleMania and this time, there would be no coming back from it.
