8 Ups & 2 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (June 19)
Ups...
8. Becky Bounces Back
Fans were desperate for Becky Lynch to take the Money In The Bank briefcase. Chicago came alive every time she was within touching distance of the prize, and it's clear that her crowd support is higher than ever, but it wasn't to be. The pay-per-view was another failure for a wrestler whose wheels have been spinning since the moment she lost the SmackDown Women's Championship.
WWE just don't see her as a star, but she was given a rebound opportunity last night. Lynch faced Billie Kay in singles competition, with The IIconics cutting a typically annoying promo beforehand. This led into a bout that wasn't anything special, but served its purpose well. Kay was an effective pest, 'The Lass Kicker' showed fire, and it delivered the right outcome, with Lynch tapping Billie out in just under eight minutes.
With the Asuka vs. Carmella feud seemingly continuing through another pay-per-view cycle, it's hard to tell what the future holds for Becky, particularly with ally Charlotte Flair set to miss the next month. Let's hope she finally finds stronger footing. She's too good and too popular to be left languishing, but it's hard to see her breaking above the midcard under these circumstances.
