Well, what do you know? It looks like NXT are finally adding a little drama into the black and gold Women's Tag Team division. It's about damn time!

Before we get to the events which unfolded in the closing stages, we've first got to acknowledge the stellar work put in by both the unit of Kayden Carter and Kacy Catanzaro and the reigning champs Io Shirai and Zoey Stark during their title showdown last night. Everything from Io's reluctance to tag in her partner - arrogantly fending off the challengers single-handedly for a spell - to the KC's increasingly awesome joint-offence - their elevated splash off the top rope was dizzying - worked a treat.

Yet, the individual brilliance of the champs was ultimately too much for the plucky best bud challengers, with a flipping knee to the face and Moonover moonsault proving that not even positive chemistry could get the better of all-round class.

Then, as the dust was settling on this unorthodox night at the office, a now-masked Mandy Rose, fresh from being booted in the face by Sarray seven days ago, and her goon squad (Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne) jumped the unsuccessful challengers, seemingly making their intentions on becoming the new champs known in the process.

A maniacal team lashing out and doing whatever it takes to be number one? Sometimes the simplest stories are the best. Also, protective mask = sadistic heel in WWE. This is merely a fact we have to live with.
