8 Ups And 2 Downs For WWE NXT (Apr 20)
1. O'Reilly Gets Up And Running
It was vital O'Reilly got off to a strong start in his first real encounter outside of being associated with or involved in a feud against an Undisputed star. And you'll be pleased to hear that 'Cool Kyle' is every bit as entertaining as 'Brutal Kyle' is savage.
Catching Cameron Grimes with a sarcastic slap mid-way through their encounter, it's obvious that Triple H and co. are giving the star some room to find himself on the brand and showing faith in the grappling expert by throwing him straight into the main event upon his return post-medical clearance. He repaid them by brilliantly executing his typical array of smooth as silk transitions between submissions and the sort of crisp hands & feet combinations that you'd find in a star who's set to make the walk into the Octagon - all with a cheeky twinkle in his eye.
After an electric back-and-forth closing stretch, O'Reilly sealed the deal with his new top-rope flying knee to the back finisher, picking up a momentum-gaining victory over a star who looks set to ignite a feud with the Million Dollar man in the coming weeks. Because, why wouldn't you?
As for O'Reilly's future? If an intense locking of the eyes between himself and the current NXT Champion pre-match was anything to go by, Doomsday could well and truly be on the horizon for 'Cool Kyle'.
Be careful what you wish for, Mr. O'Reilly...
