8 Ups And 2 Downs For WWE NXT (Apr 27)
4. Reed Makes A Splash
Where's there's a will, there's always a chance of some utter nonsense getting in The Way of something that threatens to be interesting on NXT television.
Thankfully, not even the side-track of Dexter Lumis and Indi Hartwell having a lover's spat at ringside could take away from the unexpectedly fun showdown between Austin Theory and Bronson Reed. It may not have redefined the art form, but the sight of Reed catching Theory in mid-air and gorilla pressing him to the ground with a thud was enough to bring a wry smile to even the most pessimistic of black and gold watchers.
In the end, Reed was able to overcome the variety of spinning plates at ringside, even clocking the current North American Champion on the apron, en-route to Tsunami splashing his way to a date with destiny. If TakeOver: Stand and deliver was anything to go by, his second showdown with Johnny Gargano over NXT's secondary strap will no doubt be an absolute banger too. So, fingers crossed it doesn't find itself being derailed by the developmental Romeo and Juliet.
Is now the time to put the belt on the Colossal challenger? Why the hell not? Gargano definitely doesn't need it and the brand has been crying out for another shot in its mid-card title scene since Damian Priest answered the call.
