8 Ups And 6 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (May 1)
3. Second Verse, Same As The First
Does anyone else get the feeling that WWE brass doesn’t buy Apollo Crews as a future star, but still feels the need to push him because of his raw talent?
Crews floundered after an initial push when he was called up last year, and after being mired in the SmackDown undercard, he came to Raw last month, only to be saddled with Titus O’Neil as a “manager” and fighting the likes of Curt Hawkins and Heath Slater. And Apollo doesn’t really get a huge reaction, other than an “oooh” when he hits a nice move.
At this point, wouldn’t it be better for Crews to head back down to NXT and work on a few things, and more importantly, drop off the WWE radar for a bit? Unless the powers that be are going to buy in and push him, he’s just someone in the background, a guy having filler matches.
It’s tough saying that because Crews is talented and could/should be a big star, but we’ve seen this play out once before and it feels eerily similar.
