8 Ups and 7 Downs From WWE Raw (June 27)

5. Make Darren Young A Wrestler Again

When WWE started doing the backstage segments with Darren Young and his “life coach” Bob Backlund, you couldn’t help but be curious about how things would evolve over time.

Nearly two months later, and it looks like things have barely moved. Young and Backlund are still having their segments via split screen, which insinuates that they’re not in the same city talking to each other. The segments follow a predictable routine: Young says something innocuous to irritate or set off Backlund, who yells at him and tells him to do some type of physical punishment.

These segments aren’t bad, per se, but they’re starting to become repetitive with no end or evolution in sight. For right now, let’s call this a warning to start moving things along. Otherwise, it’s going to become annoying. If the goal is to make Darren great again, then when can we see him actually training with Backlund, which could be genuinely funny.
