8 Wrestlers Who Could Be Chris Jericho's Teased Secret Mystery Opponent

2. Chris Hero

Having not appeared in a ring since before the pandemic, this would come as a shocker - but that's the purpose of the mystery opponent gimmick, no?

A WWE return in a coaching capacity is likely - he's a sharp wrestling mind - but Tony Khan has made a cause of lovingly transposing modern wrestling's underground onto national television. He is also quite nice and sentimental, as much as a billionaire can be, and has form in giving old cult legends a moment on the cable stage they weren't thought worthy of by the monopoly.

Chris Hero deserves such a moment. He'd be playing face here, but he entered an all-time great heel performance in the ROH Vs. CZW Cage of Death match. Arrogantly lounging on the turnbuckles and marvelling at his complex masterplan unfolding, only to eat the sh*t of Homicide's fork assault, was such a phenomenal How It Started Vs. How It's Going pro wrestling moment.

Hero fits the remit as a former ROH World Tag Team champion. He held that title alongside Claudio Castagnoli - and a tainted loss to Jericho here could build a stirring, one-off Kings of Wrestling reunion.
