Having spent over half a decade as one of the best main event figures in the WWE, Edge looked set to cement his legacy as an all-time great after handily defeating Alberto Del Rio at WrestleMania 27. Shockingly, it was to be list last ever professional wrestling match. Although in his late 30s, Edge was still very much in the prime of his career, continuing to enjoy World Championship reigns and top level feuds. He was forced to vacate the World Heavyweight Championship after an emotional in-ring speech on Raw. The reason for this retirement was diagnosed as cervical spinal stenosis, a result of various previous neck injuries which had plagued Edge throughout his career. He was visibly devastated at having to walk away from the business, but was honoured with a well-deserved Hall of Fame induction the following year.
