8 WWE Tag Teams That Were Broken Up Way Too Soon

1. MNM

It would be fair to say that the mid-2000s was not a high point for tag team wrestling in the WWE, with the likes of Rene Dupree and Kenzo Suzuki and the new LOD (with Jon Heidenreich) capturing the gold. One of the best new teams to hit the scene were MNM, whose Hollywood movie star gimmick, complete with paparazzi, was unlike anything seen at the time. In their debut match on Smackdown, MNM captured the Tag Team Titles from the previously discussed Mysterio/Guerrero tandem in a good match. Despite a nonsensical loss to the new LOD (to promote the forthcoming Road Warriors DVD, MNM were a constant presence on Smackdown in 2005 and 06. Led by ring general Mercury, the team routinely had great matches and were often used to advance major angles. Melina was a major part of the group's success. Unfortunately, she was also the main reason the group were split up in May 2006, a little over a year after first showing up on WWE TV. Melina had let the good reviews go to her head and had begun to alienate her colleagues with her diva-like behaviour and attitude. It didn't help that she was openly having an affair with Smackdown's main man Batista. She didn't smarten up after a trip to wrestler's court and the situation became so toxic that her and Nitro were shifted to Raw (for the good of them and the Smackdown locker room). Mercury, meanwhile, was struggling with substance abuse issues and required a trip to rehab. Had these problems not occurred, it's likely that MNM would have continued to be the team on Smackdown (or Raw, if they were drafted) for quite some time. They reunited briefly in late 2006/07 before Mercury was released.
