8 WWE Wrestlers Who Won World & Intercontinental Championships In The Same Year

1. Kevin Owens - 2016

The latest man to join the list, Kevin Owens is the only person to win both the Intercontinental and Universal Championships. Sure, there have only been four of the latter, but that isn't the point. Given all he has achieved, it is easy to forget that Owens has been a main roster wrestler for just two years.

Owens won his second Intercontinental Championship in February 2016, defeating Dean Ambrose, Tyler Breeze, Dolph Ziggler, and Stardust in a fatal five-way match on RAW. Owens didn't hold the belt for long however, losing it in a seven-man ladder match at WrestleMania 32 to Zack Ryder of all people.

Four months after losing the IC title, Owens became only the second WWE Universal Champion in history. Owens achieved this thanks to Triple H, 'The Game' attacking Seth Rollins and leaving KO to pick up the pieces. But how it happened is academic - Kevin Owens won the Universal Championship.

Who will be the next man to join this prestigious list? Current Intercontinental Champion Dean Ambrose won the strap on 3 January of this year, meaning he missed the cut by just three days, but will he climb to the top of the mountain once more before the end of 2017?

Could Bray Wyatt somehow pick himself up and become a champion again? If Brock Lesnar wanted the Intercontinental Championship, he'd surely get it in a heartbeat. Hopefully WWE doesn't pick up on this achievement, otherwise 'The Big Dog' might get a sniff of the feat...

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
