9 Best Wrestling Lone Wolves Ever

When people talk of character evolutions, Sting is one name that for reasons unknown is rarely mentioned. Sting went from power and paint All-American uber-babyface to darker-than-dark silent presence in the stand in the blink of an eye, from the frontline of the battle against evil in WCW to a brooding outsider in no time at all.

Years of being betrayed by anyone and everyone had caught up with the Stinger, and his WCW compadres questioning his loyalty at the beginning of the war with the nWo was the final straw. They had no trust in Sting, so Sting was off. He became a dark soul, watching from afar.

This evolution genuinely doesn't get enough credit when talking about character overhauls, which is strange to think when you consider Sting is one of the biggest sports entertainment names of all time. WCW was nothing without Sting, but they had thrown Sting under the bus one too many times.

The story ran for a long time, a long time during which Sting gave no inkling as to which side he was on. Why would he? Nobody would listen to him either way. Sting was going Sting's way, and in doing so he became the most captivating lone wolf in the history of professional wrestling.

Up until now, at least.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
