9 Best Wrestling Lone Wolves Ever

7. Katsuyori Shibata

NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 10 Shibata Ishii
NJPW

NJPW's premier stiff-kicking 'It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia' Mac-lookalike Katsuyori Shibata plays nice with others from time to time, but he is most definitely a lone wolf in the most proud sense of the word. It makes sense in-canon too.

Shibata left NJPW when the company was at its lowest ebb to pursue a career in MMA, a move that was seen as betrayal by those that stayed behind. When Shibata returned to NJPW he wasn't exactly welcomed back with open arms, meaning if he wanted to take a route to the top he had no choice but to take his licks and return them tenfold.

Which Shibata has done. Sure, he takes part in tag matches now and then, but the current NEVER Openweight Champion is a man who simply isn't interested in the welfare of anyone other than himself. This veneer seemed to be slipping in 2015 when Shibata won tag gold with childhood buddy Hirooki Goto, but their partnership has since ended.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
