9 Times WWE Booked Impromptu Matches At WrestleMania
8. Rock Comes Dressed To Fight
When The Rock teamed with Roman Reigns to defeat Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40, it was the first real Mania match the Great One had wrestled in 11 years, when he lost to John Cena at their second “Once in a Lifetime” main events at WrestleMania 29.
However, there’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it “match” at the disappointing WrestleMania 32. Fans should be forgiven if they don’t remember this one.
Rock came out with a blowtorch, igniting a giant sign bearing his name, then strode to the ring to announce the (fake) attendance record for Dallas’ AT&T Stadium. His routine was interrupted by the Wyatt Family, who were sitting on the sidelines for that year’s Mania.
After a bunch of back-and-forth, Rock stripped off his clothes, revealing his wrestling gear. He challenged the Wyatts to a match right then and there, with Erick Rowan stepping up… and launching right into a Rock Bottom at the bell, losing in a Mania record six seconds.
The match was a joke, only serving to give Rock screentime and set a more legitimate Mania record for quickest match, given that the 31-year-old record set by King Kong Bundy at the first WrestleMania actually lasted more than 25 seconds.
